Introduction

Social Welfare Management Research Center has started its activities in July 2013, based on the authorization of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, in the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences. Before that and since year 2000, this Center named as the Social Welfare Research Center has been associated with social welfare as the first research institution in the country. The regular publication of the Journal of Social Welfare which was launched since 2001, so far continues. The Journal has been received academic accreditation from the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in 2002.

Organizational structure of the Center

Organization of the center is composed of Founder Committee, Research Committee and the General Council. Research activities of the Center are planned in the Research Council which is consisting of faculty members and researchers of the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences and other related universities. According to the inter-sectoral and multi-disciplinary nature of social welfare discipline, the Center is enjoying various expertises of the working members in the areas of sociology, psychiatry, social medicine, psychology, law, economics, health and statistics.

Goals

Given the importance of scientific policies based on scientific researches, the Social Welfare Management Research Center, as the first research institution in the field of health and social welfare in the country, intends to play a role through implementing and developing basic and applied researches, with a goal- oriented principal and a special focus on the fields of welfare and social health according to the following strategies:

-       implementation of  basic and applied researches in the areas of health and social welfare

-       Educational and research collaborations with groups and related social welfare centers within the university

-       Educational and research collaborations with other research centers and scientific associations in the country

-       Educational and research cooperation with international organizations concerned with the social welfare within the country

-     Cooperating with relevant governmental and nongovernmental organizations concerned with  social welfare and social health in the country operating in the fields of policy, planning and scientific empowerment

-       Using various methods of disseminating knowledge in order to continue publication of research findings and community notification

-       Setting up and developing long-term and short-term training courses

 

Research Background

The center from the beginning of its activities which named as Social Welfare Research Center has implemented nearly forty research projects in the areas of social welfare, social problems, and prepared and published about dozen books, more than hundred and twenty articles in internal and external scientific journals, published 51 issue of scientific Journal of Social Welfare.

 Some of the major projects implemented:

-       Examining the dynamics of poverty in Iran

-       Codification of regulation layering services method and determining service packages  in the comprehensive social welfare system in the fourth Development Plan

-       Codification a composite index of social health in Iran

-       Evaluation and measurement of social capital in Iran

-       A review of relevant studies of social determinants of health in Iran, based on the WHO Model

-       Codification of comprehensive plan for primary prevention of addiction

-       Investigating the problems of Iranian 15-29 years old youth

-       Evaluation of plans and techniques of empowerment

-       Looking at Iran’s social problems from the perspective of managers and social issues experts and scholars

-       Designing and evaluation of community-based economic empowerment program  of marginalized neighborhoods

-       Reviewing the views and theories of social welfare

-       Introduction to the social welfare rights

-       analyzing the social and economic rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran from the perspective of John Rawls's theory of social justice and international human rights documents

-       Meta-analysis of researches conducted in the field of poverty
