The Governor General of Tehran, Dr. Anoushirvan Mohseni Bandpei and Deputy of Tehran Governor General and Special Governor of Shahr-e-Rey , Dr. Hossein Tavakoli in a joint meeting with the Chancellor, Prof. Hamidreza Khankeh,, and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammad Ali Mohseni Bandpei of the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences (USWR), which was held at the USWR, announced the preparation of the Tehran governorate to support university programs at Razi Educational and Therapeutic Psychiatric Center (Aminabad).

Dr. Anoushiravan Mohseni Banpei started the discussion by emphasizing the areas of specialty of the USWR such as rehabilitation, social welfare, aging and mental health. He reiterated how these specialties address the issues and pressing needs of specific people within the community, especially those in need of these services, and yet only two specialized hospitals under the auspices of this university (Razi Psychiatry Center and Rofeideh Rehabilitation Hospital) provide these services. These specialized services are now very much required in view of the current societal situation and should not be neglected. Thus, special attention should be paid to these medical centers in all dimensions.

It was highlighted that about 600 chronic patients (out of the 1116 active beds) are permanent residents in Razi Psychiatric Center and their need for non-psychiatric services, which if necessary, leads to their transfer and hospitalization to other hospitals and medical centers. It was proposed that equipping the general hospital services part of the Razi Psychiatric Educational and Medical Center will be absolutely essential, and that this program will be followed up jointly between the university and the governor's office. In addition to this concern, Prof. Hamidreza Khankeh, Chancellor of the USWR, called attention to the lack of financial coverage for the permanent accommodation costs of these 600 chronic patients. This has caused the university to use its other credits for the costs of this center. One last pertinent issue pertaining to this medical center includes its accessibility from the main street of Aminabad, which can impede patron’s usage of this medical center.

Prof. Mohammad Ali Mohseni Bandpei, Faculty member and Vice Chancellor for International Affairs at the USWR said that as a unique university within the Middle East region, specifically focusing on distinctive fields such as social welfare, mental health and rehabilitation sciences, the USWR has always been committed to providing a state of the art education, a supportive learning environment for both national and international students, fostering cross-cultural understanding and experience. While introducing the 8 research centers of this university, he cited some national and regional projects that had been implemented with the participation of the research centers of the university.

Finally, he enumerated Rofeideh Rehabilitation Specialized Hospital as the only university hospital in the country that operates in the field of rehabilitation under the auspices of the USWR and said: "Considering that this number of rehabilitation beds is not enough for the total population and community needs, the university together with the Tehran Governor’s office have recently designed and implemented construction projects with the Akhavan Rehabilitation Hospital (located in the south of Valiasr Street) and a special medical-rehabilitation clinic in the Yaftabad area of Tehran (Yaftabad Special Rehabilitation Clinic).”

The Governor General of Tehran stated that the completion of the above projects which has been part of the university developmental projects according to the growing needs of the Tehran population for specialized rehabilitation services, is also a priority for the Tehran Governor's Office and they will provide any assistance that is possible in the implementation of these programs and for the establishment of medical and rehabilitation centers. The governor of Tehran also emphasized that Shahr-e-Rey governor has a macro and strategic view to the Razi Psychiatric Center and he divides the needs of this educational and medical center into four sections; and he will examine and pursue the solutions to solve them.
