We must move toward transparency and ethical accountability in the health system

We must move toward transparency and ethical accountability in the health system.

The Vice President of the Iranian Association for Medical Ethics, at the first Congress of the Scientific Association of Medical Ethics, held on September 16 (24 Mehr), hosted by the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences, said: We must move toward transparency and ethical accountability in the health system, and it is necessary that every clinical decision, in addition to its practical aspects, be documented and grounded in the scientific principles of medical ethics and legal principles. In other words, ethics at the bedside is established when it becomes a common language for the physician, patient, and legislator.

According to the reporter from web da University, Dr. Roya Rashid Pourayi, Vice President of the Iranian Scientific Association for Medical Ethics, at the first Congress of the Scientific Association of Medical Ethics, held on September 16, hosted by the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences, said: Events like these not only reflect the country’s demographic concerns but also provide an inter-disciplinary dialogue among physicians, nurses, lawyers, ethics and policy experts, and stakeholders. Youthful demographics are not merely a demographic policy issue; they are a human and ethical matter, directly linked to human dignity, the right to health, and the quality of life for future generations. From this perspective, the discussions at today’s conference are more problem-oriented than theoretical, meaning that the science of medical ethics and medical science must serve major decisions that shape the future.

The executive secretary of the conference on youth demographics stated: The lessons from the Youth Demographics panel showed that the issue is not merely a statistical concern but rooted in ethical and humane values. The prominent speakers in this gathering, each from their own specialty, emphasized that population policies can be successful and enduring only if they are based on the principles of bioethics in health, solid and up-to-date scientific evidence, social justice, and human dignity.

He added: Interdisciplinary dialogue and the use of scientific evidence and ethical scientific auditing are the only ways to achieve balanced and ethical policies. Supporting families, facilitating childbearing, and improving maternal and child health must occur alongside respect for individual rights, public awareness, informed choice, and policy measures that are supportive in the family and community context, all in tandem.

Dr. Rashid Pourayi stated: The central message of this panel was that if the youth demographic is not linked to ethics, quality, and awareness, it will not be sustainable. This integration of ethics and policy-making is the point that will create a more humane and just future for society.

The Vice President of the Iranian Scientific Association for Medical Ethics said: Although the Family Support and Youth Demographics Act has many positive and prominent aspects, the legal provisions related to the medical field have serious scientific and ethical considerations. Given that this law is a seven-year experimental law, there is a need for serious revision of the provisions related to medicine.
