Occupational therapy and achieving justice in social participation: a look at the 2026 World Occupational Therapy Day slogan
On the occasion of World Occupational Therapy Day, the Head of the Occupational Therapy Department congratulated the students, faculty members, and occupational therapy specialists at the university.
According to a report by the University's Web-Day reporter, the congratulatory message from Dr. Hooshang Mirzaei, Head of the Occupational Therapy Department at the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences, on the occasion of Occupational Therapy Day is as follows: It is with great pride that we congratulate the arrival of World Occupational Therapy Day to all faculty members, experts, and dear students in this field who work at the university and its affiliated therapeutic centers, as well as all occupational therapists in Iran.
With the arrival of World Occupational Therapy Day, the global focus has shifted to the concept of Participation. The 2026 slogan outlines a clear vision of occupational therapists' specialized duty: transforming individual abilities into social participation. With a multidimensional perspective, occupational therapists seek to enhance independence and quality of life, going beyond purely biomechanical interventions. The main challenge in facing limitations is not merely improving performance, but reconstructing an individual's ability to fulfill social, occupational, and educational roles. In line with the slogan Participation Matters, occupational therapy removes barriers to participation through environmental management, activity modification, and the strengthening of adaptive skills. In this journey, we emphasize the importance of returning the individual to the cycle of active life and guaranteeing the right to an effective presence in society, because participation is the core of human well-being and health.
Your efforts as specialists are not only a reflection of commitment and expertise but also express a deep sense of humanity and relentless striving to improve the lives of others. We hope for days when, through cooperation and empathy, we take more effective steps toward serving the people and society.
This day is an opportunity to honor the dear occupational therapists who, through their effort and dedication, help empower individuals and guide them toward a higher quality of life. Undoubtedly, your work in returning individuals to society and elevating the level of community health is highly valuable and commendable.
Without a doubt, this effort is a struggle in the way of truth and deserves respect and appreciation. Therefore, as a small member of the large occupational therapy community, I honor the scientific and human value of you, my esteemed colleagues; may we all be under the light of His mercy.
Dr. Hooshang Mirzaei
