Technology: A Strategic Partner in the Modern Rehabilitation System

Technology: A Strategic Partner in the Modern Rehabilitation System

The Chancellor of the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences (USWR), emphasizing a paradigm shift in rehabilitation services, described technology as a "strategic partner" for the modern rehabilitation system. He stated that utilizing technological approaches enables a more effective response to the growing needs of the disabled community while enhancing the quality, accessibility, and efficiency of services.

According to the university’s website, Dr. Seyed Ali Hosseini spoke at the inauguration ceremony of the University’s Medical Equipment and Rehabilitation Technology Incubation Center: "This center is a specialized hub in the country's rehabilitation technology sector and can play a crucial role in creating a learning and technological ecosystem."

Mapping Rehabilitation in Physical, Mental, and Social Dimensions

Referring to the university's missions in rehabilitation sciences, social health, and mental health, he added, "Since 1992, numerous departments and research centers have operated with specific focuses. Today, with 23 academic departments and 9 research centers, the university possesses a comprehensive roadmap in the physical, mental, and social dimensions of rehabilitation."

The University Chancellor emphasized the significance of postgraduate studies, noting: "Two-thirds of our students are at the postgraduate level, which makes the university's missions, particularly in the field of technology, more serious and impactful."

Rehabilitation at a Technological Turning Point

Dr. Hosseini addressed the paradigm shift in rehabilitation, saying: "In the past, this field faced challenges such as limited specialist manpower, rising expectations from clients, and the need to improve service access and quality. Today, however, technology—as a partner in decision-making for both the individual and the service delivery system—has made it possible to address complex rehabilitation issues."

He cited the transition toward next-generation universities with an interdisciplinary approach as one of the university's primary visions. He added: "Expanding cooperation with industrial universities like Sharif and Amirkabir, as well as other scientific centers, is on the agenda to solve rehabilitation challenges through research-oriented institutes and technological approaches."

Forming a Knowledge-Based and Wealth-Creating Ecosystem

The Chancellor of USWR identified the creation of a learning ecosystem based on a knowledge-based and wealth-creating economy as the university's macro-vision. He expressed gratitude for the Ministry of Health's support in providing structural and laboratory infrastructure. He voiced hope that the launch of this center would mark a significant step toward solving the problems faced by the disabled community and clients.

Dr. Hosseini highlighted the university's development-oriented approach to technology, noting, "The Incubation Center is the starting point for technological development at the university. Plans are in place to expand activities and house more tech companies. Additionally, coordination is underway to utilize a facility outside the university campus to further develop technological operations."

Pointing to the growing population requiring rehabilitation and the national need for specialized services, he described the inauguration of this center as a major step toward meeting this national demand.

The center was inaugurated during the Ten-Day Dawn (Fajr) celebrations, aimed at developing technological activities and supporting innovative ideas and companies. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Health for Research and Technology, the Deputy Minister and Head of the Special Education Organization, the Acting Head of the Health Technology Development Office, the Director-General of Rehabilitation for the Red Crescent Society, as well as various directors, faculty members from engineering and technology departments, and related officials.
