The Deputy Minister of Research and Technology of the Ministry of Health, emphasizing the specialized position of the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences, described the institution as an influential entity in responding to the challenges and needs of the country’s rehabilitation sector and underscored the importance of its role in resolving these issues.
According to the University’s Web da reporter, the Technology Incubation Center for Medical and Rehabilitation Equipment at USWR was inaugurated on Tuesday, February 17th (28 Bahman), coinciding with the Fajr decade. The center aims to develop technological activities and support innovative ideas and companies. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Research and Technology of the Ministry of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education; Dr. Salar Ghasemi, Deputy Minister and Head of the Special Education Organization; Dr. Amirhossein Jamshidi, Acting Director of the Health Technology Development Office; and Dr. Peyman Pishgahi, Director General of Rehabilitation for the Red Crescent Society.
During the ceremony, Dr. Shahin Akhoondzadeh, Deputy Minister of Research and Technology, expressed his satisfaction with the center's opening. He highlighted the significance of establishing a specialized field within a collection that possesses a strong academic and scientific background in rehabilitation. "Since the beginning of my executive activities in the rehabilitation field, I have sought to achieve such an important goal, and the construction and positioning of this university were considered in this regard," he stated.
Referring to the presence of representatives from the Red Crescent Society, the Special Education Organization, the State Welfare Organization, and the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, Dr. Akhoondzadeh noted that their participation reflects the broad range of stakeholders in the rehabilitation sector. He described the constructive interaction between these institutions and the university, particularly given the existence of a specialized university like USWR, as highly productive.
The Necessity of Addressing the Broad Audience of Rehabilitation
The Deputy Minister stated that USWR will play a significant role by launching the Technology Incubation Center for Medical and Rehabilitation Equipment and, in the future, establishing a specialized technology park meeting international standards.
Dr. Akhoondzadeh noted that the target audience for rehabilitation ranges from veterans of the Sacred Defense to the disabled community from the "Twelve-Day War." He added: "The growing elderly population, the statistics of road accident victims, and other factors remind us of the critical importance of the rehabilitation sector and its services. USWR plays a key role due to its specialized function in solving rehabilitation issues."
He expressed hope that if this incubation center achieves its true potential through the expertise of university researchers, we could witness the establishment of a Rehabilitation Technology Park.
Linking Academic Research with Knowledge-Based Companies
In another part of his speech, Dr. Akhoondzadeh addressed research and technology, stating: "One should not expect every faculty member to establish a knowledge-based company. A professor should maintain their connection with research and the university and provide the fruits of their research to knowledge-based companies so that we can witness services based on scientific evidence."
At the conclusion of the ceremony, while emphasizing the importance and priority of rehabilitation within the health system, the Deputy Minister expressed hope that through the synergistic cooperation of USWR with organizations such as the Red Crescent, the Welfare Organization, and the Special Education Organization, we will witness valuable progress and achievements in this field.
