Development of Collaboration between the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences and the Veterans and Functional Impairment Sports Federation is Now on the Agenda
A joint meeting was held between the Chancellor of the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences and the President of the Veterans and People with Disabilities Sports Federation to expand scientific, specialized, and rehabilitative cooperation. During the meeting, both parties emphasized the importance of utilizing university capacities to enhance the performance of athletes with disabilities.
According to Webda News, the meeting was attended by Dr. Sayed Ali Hosseini, Chancellor of the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences, and Dr. Jalil Kouhpaiezzadeh, President of the Veterans and Impaired Sports Federation. The aim was to increase collaboration in rehabilitative, psychological, and scientific aspects of supporting athletes with disabilities.
In his remarks, Dr. Hosseini highlighted the international achievements of veteran and impaired athletes, stating: “As the national reference in the field of rehabilitation, the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences is fully prepared to provide specialized services to these esteemed athletes.” He added that the shared missions of the university and the federation align closely, and expressed readiness to dedicate all capacities to this cause.
Dr. Kouhpaiezzadeh noted that today, even less-developed countries recognize the role of science in sports. He emphasized that sports for veterans and impaired athletes require closer cooperation from healthcare professionals and rehabilitation specialists, as medical and sports sciences are still lagging in this domain.
He further highlighted that sports play a crucial role in improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities, stating: “The gap between universities and sports should not be ignored; for these individuals, sport is not merely physical activity but a tool for transformative life change.”
Additionally, managers of programs in physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, orthotics, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, and social work expressed their readiness to collaborate with the federation and provide specialized services to veteran and impaired athletes.
