Extent of topics and clinical applications of the handbook in the assessment and treatment of speech and language disorders
Dr. Fariba Yadegari, the author of the Comprehensive Handbook on Methods of Assessment in Speech-Language Pathology, said at the Café Book ceremony: The Comprehensive Handbook on Methods of Assessment in Speech-Language Pathology is being unveiled for the first time at the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences. The aim of writing this handbook is to create a textbook that can be used by educators of speech-language pathology in teaching, by graduate students for research purposes, theses and dissertations, and by clinical specialists and therapists in the assessment and diagnosis of clients. The book is designed to establish a baseline for designing appropriate treatment and has overall educational, research, and clinical objectives.
She added that this handbook includes: clinical principles and methods in assessment, foundational definitions for assessment concepts, counseling and diagnostic interviewing, test construction in speech-language pathology, tele-assessment methods, assessment of subcultures and multilingualism, presentation of external and internal tests, and specialized assessment methods across all aspects of communication, language, speech, and swallowing.
Dr. Yadegari stated that this handbook, the result of the efforts of many authors and field experts, can be a valuable resource for speech-language pathologists. The reason is the breadth of topics and the wide coverage of disorders in this field, such that, in the authors’ view, the book serves as a precise and comprehensive guide to assessment for clinicians to guide treatment planning for clients.
She continued that, in addition to its academic use in university settings and research benefits, the book is written in a way that it can be used as a practical guide for clinical speech-language therapists.
A faculty member of the Speech-Language Pathology Department at the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences stated: With a comprehensive, specialized, and precise perspective, we hope this handbook will be used by the speech-language pathology community and will contribute to raising awareness among other professionals.
Dr. Talieh Zarifian, Director of Medical Communications and Scientific Resources at the University, speaking at the Café Book ceremony, expressed happiness at the success of the Speech-Language Pathology group as a central focus and welcomed Dr. Yadegari as a distinguished professor in this group and on the Ministry of Health Board.
