Social Work, the Core of Social Health Impact / Commitment to Applied Research for Solving Social Dilemmas Coinciding with the birth of Imam Ali (AS) and National Social Work Day, Dr. Mohammad Sabzi Khoshnami, the head of the Social Work Education Group at the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences, praised the hardworking and eager social workers and wished them health, long life, and success. He noted that on this auspicious day, which coincides with the blessed birth of the exemplar of justice, chivalry, and service to creation, Imam Ali (AS), it is the best opportunity to thank the valuable services of esteemed professors, future-building students, and the devoted social work professionals in various organizations. He emphasized that the field of social work is the primary hub for advancing the community’s social health and that increasing practical research related to daily needs and strengthening links with supportive institutions on the path to social empowerment are among the group’s achievements. According to the university’s Web News reporter, Dr. Mohammad Sabzi, highlighting the central role of the Social Work field in the country’s health structure, said: Social work is the main pillar of social health. He added: If we regard the health of society as a pyramid, rehabilitation, medical, and psychological services form its sides, but the main pillar that connects these sides and ensures the stability of the structure is social work. Our social workers, whether in the child and family field, in geriatrics, or in clinical centers, act as the bridge between the individual and the system that must serve them. This influential role requires equipping students with the highest level of specialized knowledge and professional ethics. Educational transformation with a direct effectiveness approach in relation to the educational group’s programs: We are seeking to train specialized social workers who are transformative and effective, which necessitates a transformation in education. The Social Work Education Group is moving toward models that directly acquaint students with the complexities of the service environment and how to interact with diverse stakeholders, and theoretical education must always be accompanied by practical exercises and continuous competency-based evaluations. The collaboration of this group with centers such as the Ministry of Health, the Judiciary, and the Welfare Organization, alongside university internship centers, testifies to this.

Research aligned with field needs: Dr. Sabzi also emphasized the necessity of directing research toward planning for acute societal problems, stating that there is no place for purely theoretical research anymore. Our country needs applied research that, at the heart of and within the social context, engages in planning and problem-solving. The high distinction of this educational group and the rector’s and vice chancellors’ praise for selected and impactful projects of the Ministry of Health reflect the commitment that the Social Work Education Group has to practical solutions for these issues, and this work makes the university’s role in social development more pronounced.

The importance of professional ethics amid the complexities of the work: The head of the Social Work Education Group added that the sensitivity of our professional work is high because it concerns people’s destinies. We emphasize the importance of upholding ethical principles, confidentiality, and the ability to manage ethical conflicts when dealing with the target population, because without a foundation in professional ethics, no level of specialized knowledge can lead to lasting impact. He then highlighted some of the group’s recent successes, such as the shining performance of the Social Work Student Scientific Association in the university’s annual evaluation, first place in impactful projects nationally, growth in books and article publications, grant acquisition, full participation of all faculty members of this group in university research centers, two faculty members serving in the Academy, two faculty members on the Board of Social Rehabilitation, development of national protocols with the intellectual contribution of this group, collaboration with advisory and policy-making committees in the Ministry of Health, the Judiciary, the Welfare Organization, and other agencies, etc.—evidence of the group’s dynamism.

Dr. Sabzi concluded by noting that the recent successes and advances of the Social Work Education Group are the result of cohesive teamwork, unwavering support from the university chancellor and the vice chancellor for education, and active involvement from all faculty members, students, and staff of this group. He expressed hope that, by relying on this solidarity and with a brighter future in sight, we can advance in line with our noble social mission.
