The Health of Future Generations Depends on Empowering Mothers
During National Population and Health Week, the necessity of focusing on maternal and child health as two fundamental pillars for population sustainability and the future of society is more evident than ever. This is because the health of future generations begins directly within the safe and informed embrace of mothers.
According to a report by Web Day University's correspondent, Dr. Aida Ravarian, a faculty member at the Pediatric Neurological Research Center, remarked during Population Week: National Population and Health Week serves as a valuable opportunity to refocus on one of the most vital pillars of community health: maternal and child health. The future of any society depends on the quality of growth and development of the children being raised in families today, and along this path, the mother plays an irreplaceable and fundamental role.
She added: Child development is a holistic process encompassing physical, motor, cognitive, linguistic, emotional, and social dimensions, beginning from the moment of birth. The early years of life, particularly the first three years, are the most critical periods for brain formation and the foundation of a child's personality. During this window, the quality of the mother-child bond, the responsiveness to the infant's needs, play, interaction, emotional contact, proper nutrition, and the provision of a safe and enriched environment will have a profound impact on the child's developmental trajectory and future.
Postpartum Education and Maternal Empowerment: Inseparable Components of Child Health
The university faculty member stated: Postpartum education and the empowerment of mothers are inseparable components of child health. When mothers are knowledgeable about proper interaction with their infants, the importance of play and sensory stimulation, the evolution of speech and communication, the recognition of developmental delay signs, and the creation of a calm and supportive environment, they provide better growth opportunities for their children. Many of a child's cognitive, emotional, and social abilities are shaped within these simple, everyday interactions.
Dr. Ravarian further emphasized: Alongside these factors, maternal mental health and the preservation of maternal dignity are of paramount importance. A mother who receives emotional, social, and educational support and who feels valued and at peace is better equipped to create a dynamic and healthy environment for her child's growth. Maternal dignity means respecting the mother's role, listening to her needs, and providing opportunities to enhance her quality of life and mental well-being; this is because maternal and child health are inextricably linked.
She concluded: Today, more than ever, it is essential that the health system, educational institutions, and the media work alongside families to prioritize parental education and raise public awareness regarding child development. Investing in maternal education, family support, and the creation of child-friendly environments is, in essence, an investment in a healthier, more capable, and more humane future.
During this Health and Population Week, we are reminded that the health of the next generation begins in the safe, informed, and empowered arms of mothers. Prioritizing maternal dignity and child development is the ultimate guarantee for the future health of our society.
