The Special Assistant to the President Warned of the Crisis Facing Pension Funds

Dr. Ali Rabiei, Special Assistant to the President, referring to the disruption of the ratio of workers to pension recipients, warned of the crisis facing pension funds and, emphasizing the necessity of moving away from abstract policies toward a real understanding of society, considered civic institutions and scientific associations to be the most important capacity for strengthening national resilience.

According to the university's web correspondent, Dr. Ali Rabiei, Special Assistant to the President, at the Aging in Iran symposium, referring to the complexities of the country's economic and social conditions, described the government, the economy, and society as three interconnected and inseparable sides of social balance and vitality.

Expressing serious concern over demographic changes and developments in the labor market, especially the becoming unbalanced of the ratio of insurance-paying workers to service recipients, he warned of the mounting pressure and crisis facing pension funds in the coming years and emphasized the necessity of an immediate review of support laws and policies.

The Special Assistant to the President described moving beyond the abstract concept of the people and moving toward operational engagement with intermediary institutions as a strategic necessity, and clarified: For the government to have a real impact across society, it is inevitably required to utilize the capacity of scientific associations and specialized organizations as a bridge of communication between the individual and the state. Civic institutions should not be considered a threat; on the contrary, they are precisely an unparalleled opportunity for the enhancement and consolidation of national resilience.

Dr. Rabiei then, detailing the status of plans related to social resilience that are being pursued and completed in the government, addressed the results of field studies on social events of recent years and noted: The analysis of social events requires a pathology based on the tangible realities of society, and reducing these phenomena to conspiracy-oriented discussions blocks the path to solving the problem. Therefore, policymaking must distance itself from an engineered and directive atmosphere and be grounded in reliable data and a field-based understanding of society.

Recalling the accelerating phenomenon of population aging in the country, he considered the adoption of precautionary measures and expert, low-cost solutions to be the only way to contain future livelihood and welfare crises, and concluded by emphasizing the necessity of the official, continuous, and structured presence of representatives of scientific associations in the commissions and decision-making councils of the government and scientific institutions.
