The Vital Role of the First 1,000 Days in Shaping the Individual and Social Future of Children

The Vital Role of the First 1,000 Days in Shaping the Individual and Social Future of Children

The scientific secretary of the First Congress on Child Rehabilitation has emphasized that experiences during early childhood, particularly the first 1,000 days of life, which coincide with the highest rate of brain growth, play a crucial role in establishing the foundation of every human being's life. This period represents a golden opportunity for investing in children's health and future.

Dr. Farin Soleimani, a pediatric specialist and the scientific secretary of the First Congress on Child Rehabilitation, spoke with the university's news reporter about the significance of early childhood (from birth to eight years old) and its impact on individual and social futures.

Dr. Soleimani highlighted that those experiences in early childhood, especially the first 1,000 days, are vital for forming the underpinnings of life and provide an essential opportunity to invest in children's health and future.

She pointed out that early childhood development (ECD) programs for children from disadvantaged families significantly reduce inequalities and enhance quality of life. A child's development is influenced by factors such as proper nutrition, positive parenting, parental behavior, and the social and cultural environment. Neglecting these factors can have negative and long-term consequences on a child's mental, cognitive, and social health.

The importance of active interaction and care with young children was also underscored by Dr. Soleimani, who stated that infants and children reach their highest developmental capacities through interaction, play, and effective communication with their caregivers. Therefore, implementing programs that support child development has become an undeniable necessity.

The scientific secretary further noted that at the First National Congress on Child Rehabilitation, specialized panels featuring prominent professors and national planners will be held. These sessions will not only elucidate the topic's importance but also examine the challenges of implementing rehabilitation and child development programs.

The First National Congress on Child Rehabilitation will take place on May 15-16, 2025, at the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences. Those interested in more information and registration can visit the official congress website at nprc.uswr.ac.ir.
